About the position

Beach Terrace Assisted Living & Memory Care is seeking dedicated and compassionate caregivers to provide direct care assistance to residents in our assisted living and memory care community. This full-time position is essential in ensuring that our residents receive the highest quality of care and support in their daily activities. Caregivers will be responsible for assisting residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), which include grooming, oral hygiene, bathing, and transferring residents to and from activities and meals. The role requires a strong commitment to resident rights and dignity, as well as adherence to community expectations and standards of care. In this position, caregivers will also assist with meal preparation and presentation, serving meals to residents, and monitoring changes in their eating habits. Regular rounds will be conducted every two hours to ensure residents' needs are met according to their service plans. Caregivers will be expected to document any changes in residents' conditions, including their ability to perform daily activities and any physical changes such as skin conditions or bruising. It is crucial to report any incidents or accidents involving residents immediately to the Resident Care Director or Supervisor. The caregiver role also involves responding to emergency situations and resident requests for assistance, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Caregivers must follow proper procedures to prevent environmental hazards and observe universal precautions and infection control measures. Additionally, caregivers will participate in required in-service training and be flexible in performing various resident care positions as needed. This position requires a positive attitude, teamwork, and a willingness to help others, all while maintaining confidentiality and respecting residents' rights.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance or reminders with activities of daily living, including grooming, oral hygiene, bathing, and transferring residents as needed.
  • Assist with residents' personal environment, including clothing, linen, and personal belongings.
  • Lift and/or transfer residents as needed.
  • Assist in meal preparation and presentation, serving meals to residents, and recording changes in eating habits.
  • Make resident rounds every two hours as required in service plans or as circumstances dictate.
  • Record and report changes in residents' conditions to the supervisor, including changes in ability to perform daily activities and any skin changes or bruising.
  • Use approved charting criteria and procedures to record pertinent information in resident charts.
  • Report all incidents or accidents involving residents to the Resident Care Director/Supervisor and document necessary information.
  • Follow proper procedures in emergency situations and respond promptly to resident requests for assistance.
  • Correct and prevent environmental hazards while observing universal precautions and infection control procedures.
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of resident funds or property to the supervisor.
  • Attend required in-service training and perform other related assignments as required.

Requirements

  • Experience in caregiving or personal care aide roles.
  • Knowledge of resident rights and hospice care.
  • Ability to assist with cooking and meal preparation.
  • Strong communication skills to report changes in resident conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with elderly populations.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid.
  • Training in dementia care or memory care.
