The PCA is responsible for a wide range of essential duties that contribute to the overall well-being of clients. These responsibilities include assisting clients with daily activities such as personal hygiene, mobility, and health care tasks. The PCA must demonstrate competence in performing the necessary skills outlined in the care plan, ensuring that all services provided are in line with the client's health requirements. In addition to personal care, the PCA may also provide companionship, engage clients in conversation, and support them in developing independent living skills through self-care activities. In school settings, the PCA may assist teachers by providing support to students, helping them learn, and offering feedback to both students and supervisors. The role may also involve accompanying students on transportation to and from school, supervising them during recess and lunch, and facilitating community experiences. Responsibilities

  • Provides services to persons who need help with day-to-day activities
  • Demonstrates competence in performing necessary skills as per the care plan
  • Provides health care tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client's health
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation
  • Aids teacher in helping students learn and provides feedback to students and supervisors/teachers (if applicable)
  • Performs incidental household services that are an integral part of a personal care plan (if applicable)
  • In school setting, accompanies student on bus to and from school (if applicable)
  • Provides companionship by reading, listening, and talking with the client
  • May assist in supervision of students during recess and lunch periods and accompany students on community experiences
  • Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements
  • Assists client in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene
  • Implements behavior management techniques as directed by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner
  • Appropriately reports changes in client status or as directed by care plan
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families, and employees
  • Adheres to HIPAA privacy policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Requirements

  • State licensure or certification as required by state and/or program
  • One (1) year relevant experience preferred
  • Current BLS Card
  • Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
  • Knowledge of child growth and development
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the home, school, local health agency, and other community resources
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
