About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role involves providing essential support services to clients with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs. This position is crucial in assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their overall well-being. PCAs may work in various settings, including homes and schools, and are responsible for implementing care plans established by healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services to persons who need help with day-to-day activities.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing necessary skills as outlined in the care plan.
  • Provides health care tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client's health.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation.
  • Aids teachers in helping students learn and provides feedback to students and supervisors/teachers (if applicable).
  • Performs incidental household services that are part of a personal care plan (if applicable).
  • In a school setting, accompanies students on the bus to and from school (if applicable).
  • Provides companionship by reading, listening, and talking with clients.
  • May assist in supervision of students during recess and lunch periods and accompany students on community experiences.
  • Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements.
  • Assists clients in developing independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene.
  • Implements behavior management techniques as directed by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner.
  • Reports changes in client status or as directed by the care plan.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families, and employees.
  • Adheres to HIPAA privacy policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.

Requirements

  • State licensure or certification as required by state and/or program.
  • One (1) year relevant experience preferred.
  • Current BLS Card.
  • Current PPD or Chest X-Ray.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between home, school, local health agency, and other community resources.
  • Strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
