About the position

The Caregiver is responsible for providing essential services to residents, focusing on personal care, medication reminders, and facilitating social and recreational activities. The role emphasizes sensitivity to the individual needs of each resident, aiming to enhance their quality of life and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents.
  • Reviews resident Service Plans to maintain familiarity with resident service needs and preferences.
  • Reviews the Staff Communication log and corresponding resident Service Notes daily for updates on resident service needs and health conditions.
  • Provides personal services to residents as assigned and indicated on resident Service Plans.
  • Helps residents with medications and treatments as indicated in the medication book and as assigned by regulation.
  • Responds to calls from the emergency call system in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control procedures.
  • Helps maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment by providing housekeeping services as needed.
  • Assists with individual resident and group social/recreational activities and encourages participation.
  • Monitors for changes in resident needs, preferences, and health status, reporting/documenting any changes according to established procedures.
  • Responds to emergencies appropriately as per training received.
  • Reports any abuse, suspected abuse, or alleged abuse to the appropriate supervisor or agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must meet in-service training requirements.
  • Desire to work with seniors in a respectful environment.
  • Ability to organize and use time effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well with others and function effectively as part of a team.
  • Well-groomed and willing to follow dress requirements.
  • Cheerful, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to spend long periods of time walking or standing.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • General understanding of the needs of seniors.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience with seniors preferred.
  • Experience performing caregiving tasks preferred.
