About the position

The Caregiver position at Daughters of Charity Seton Provincialate involves providing basic resident care under the direction of the Director of Nursing. The role is aligned with the Vincentian Mission and Values, focusing on the well-being and dignity of residents, particularly those with disabilities. Caregivers are responsible for assisting with daily living activities, ensuring safety and comfort, and maintaining a clean and professional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist professional nursing staff by performing duties of caring for the residents at Laboure Residence.
  • Make beds and feed residents, serve drinks and nourishment, care for incontinent residents.
  • Provide for safety, comfort, and the well-being of the residents.
  • Routinely turn and position residents.
  • Keep assigned residents' bedside area clean and personal belongings in orderly arrangement.
  • Ambulate and transfer residents utilizing appropriate assistive devices and body mechanics.
  • Receive and follow instructions from the Director of Nursing and assist with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist in assessing residents' conditions and communicating changes to the charge nurse.
  • Assist in serving at mealtimes and escorting Sisters to the chapel, enabling their involvement in activities.
  • Ensure resident privacy, respect, and dignity.
  • Observe residents' rights; maintain confidentiality of facility and residents' care information.
  • Execute duties and responsibilities in conformity with established routines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure physical safety, comfort, and well-being of residents.
  • Observe and report symptoms, reactions, and changes of residents.
  • Report unsafe conditions and safety suggestions in writing to supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in facility in-service educational programs.
  • Make sure that assignment areas are neat, clean, and free from hazards and that all supplies are properly stored and replenished before leaving on breaks or at the end of shift.
  • Answer all residents' calls promptly and ensure that the call light system or bell is within residents' reach.
  • Report all accidents and unusual occurrences to supervisor immediately.
  • Be aware of and practice proper infection control techniques.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1+ years of professional or personal experience in supporting individuals with disabilities and challenging behaviors.
  • Complete and maintain an annual basic first aid certification.
  • Complete 48 hours of in-service training every two years.
  • Demonstrate adequate English language skills in communicating and understanding spoken and written directions.
