About the position

The Caregiver position at New Haven Assisted Living is essential for providing compassionate support to residents in their daily activities. Caregivers play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by assisting with personal care, meal preparation, and engaging them in social activities. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adherence to health and safety protocols, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all residents.

Responsibilities

• Assists residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transferring.
• Serves meals to residents and assists in meal preparation according to preplanned menus.
• Encourages residents to maintain a proper diet and stay hydrated, while respecting their choices.
• Initiates and participates in leisure activities and encourages socialization among residents.
• Maintains daily records of residents' activities, medication distribution, and any changes in their condition.
• Assists residents with medication administration as per procedures and physician orders.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for residents, performing general housekeeping duties.
• Responds promptly to emergency situations and resident requests for assistance.
• Ensures the safety of residents by knowing their whereabouts and notifying supervisors of any concerns.
• Promotes teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR/FA certification within 6-12 months of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year of professional or personal experience supporting individuals with disabilities or mental illnesses.
• Must be over 18 years old and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to complete infection control training and pass a criminal background check/drug test.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform various physical tasks.
