About the position

TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Carman in San Jose, CA to join our team. The Carman is responsible for inspection, testing, and maintenance of wheel sets, brakes, brake pads, repairing suspension systems, and pneumatic equipment in accordance with FRA and PUC standards and guidelines. The pay rate for the position is $35.23 per hour. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and functionality of our transit systems, and the Carman will engage in a variety of tasks that require both technical skills and a commitment to safety and quality. The Carman will perform inspections, testing, and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations. This includes troubleshooting equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures. The position involves repairing doors, windows, interior equipment, access panels, hand brakes, brake shoes, outside car body components, fire extinguishers, emergency tools, and first aid kits. The Carman will utilize a variety of test equipment to diagnose malfunctions, troubleshoot, and repair components and circuits. Maintaining proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines, and hand tools associated with the assigned job is essential. Regular and consistent engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position, along with regular and predictable attendance and punctuality. In addition to the technical responsibilities, the Carman will be expected to complete training and attain/retain certification applicable to the assigned job. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with completion of a technical school or apprenticeship program preferred. Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems is essential, along with knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. The Carman must also demonstrate the ability to read mechanical drawings and possess skills in the use of electrical tools and equipment. This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and perform various physical tasks as outlined in the physical requirements section.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate proficiently.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
