Responsibilities

• Repairs and replaces windows, doors, and building hardware throughout the school district.
• Repairs and maintains locks, door closers, panic hardware, and window opening mechanisms.
• Constructs, repairs, and maintains tables, cabinets, counters, and flooring.
• Repairs, replaces, and maintains acoustical ceilings, covered walkways, and blinds.
• Protects and maintains tools and equipment.
• Follows safety codes and regulations.
• Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
• Supports the Hattiesburg Public School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Graduate.
• Trade School Graduate desirable.
• Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the carpenter trade.
• Knowledge of properties, uses, and adaptabilities of different kinds of woods and other building materials.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Skilled in the use of tools, materials, and equipment of the trade.
• Skilled in operating hand saw, planer, jointer, shaper, table saw, wood lathe, drill press, sanding machine, router, electric drill, and other tools and equipment of the trade.
• Ability to work from specifications and blueprints.
• Ability to climb ladders, build and climb scaffolds, and work from either.
• Working knowledge of door closure devices and panic-bars.
• Working knowledge of locksmith operations; key-way systems and diagnostics; ability to operate duplicate key machine, re-key locks, and troubleshoot malfunctioning hardware.
• Ability to drive and operate a motor vehicle with a trailer.
• Valid Mississippi driver's license.
