This position requires performing and documenting journey-level carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, or alteration of buildings. You will be responsible for repairing, replacing, and performing preventive maintenance on doors, automated doors, and associated hardware, as well as other assigned systems. The role may also involve driving university-owned vehicles to job sites and working on-call as needed. The hours for this swing shift position will be discussed with your supervisor, with a typical schedule of 40 hours a week, potentially including some holiday or weekend work. You will also be entitled to a shift differential of $3588 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, replace and perform preventive maintenance on doors, automated doors and associated hardware as well as other assigned systems.
  • Repair and replacement of electric mortise locks.
  • Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions.
  • Repair and install emergency exit hardware, ceiling tile, walls (sheet rock, masonry, etc.) and signage using hand and power tools such as circular saw, drill, hand tools, router, table saw, sander, grinder, nail guns, and other equipment.
  • Generate material lists and organize required materials for efficient work.
  • Keep accurate records of materials used and maintain daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed.
  • Assist other team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators.
  • Participate in the maintenance and operations of the shop.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment used to perform duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Provide timely and courteous customer service, keeping supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • Work independently and as a team member, assisting other team members as necessary with training in work techniques to accomplish team goals in a safe and timely manner.
  • Inspect the work of others for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Participate in the On-Call program.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Three years of experience as a journey level carpenter.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in technical field.
  • Completion of vocational, trade, or apprentice program in one or more journeyman trades.
  • Five years experience.
  • Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting.
  • Experience in more than one craft or trade.
