About the position

The Maintenance Carpenter position is a district-wide role responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of building equipment and fixtures. The role requires a high school graduate with knowledge in maintenance and carpentry, and experience in these fields or alternative experience acceptable to the Board. A valid New Jersey driver's license is required, and a New Jersey Black Seal Boiler License is preferred or must be acquired within 24 months of hiring. The position reports to the Director of Facilities and involves various responsibilities related to building maintenance and supervision of contracted services.

Responsibilities

• Installing, repairing and maintaining building equipment and fixtures, such as doors, locks, closers, counters, cabinets, windows, masonry, drywall, flooring, and furniture
• Constructing and replacing walls, floors, doorframes and ceilings
• Inspecting and replacing damaged structures
• Responsible for minor heating, plumbing, and electrical repairs as assigned
• Assisting other trade technicians
• Performing routine maintenance tasks and inspections
• Assists in the supervision of contracted services by outside contractors
• Develops and maintains an inventory of spare parts for equipment repairs
• Supervises maintenance employees assigned to assist the technician
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds

Requirements

• High School Graduate
• Demonstrates knowledge in maintenance and carpentry
• Experience in maintenance and carpentry or alternative experience acceptable to the Board
• Valid New Jersey driver's license
• New Jersey Black Seal Boiler License preferred or must be acquired within 24 months of hiring
