About the position

Cape Associates, Inc. is looking for skilled Journeyman and Foreman Carpenters to join our team in Eastham, MA. As a Journeyman Carpenter, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including layout, cutting rafters and stair stringers, side walling, and roofing. You will work independently, demonstrating your ability to read and interpret building plans effectively. Our ideal candidate is someone who is committed to quality and has a strong attention to detail. You will also be working towards obtaining your Construction Supervisor's License (CSL) if you do not already possess one. A full set of tools is required, and you must have a vehicle to transport yourself to job sites. Physical strength is essential, as you will need to lift up to 80 lbs. As a Foreman Carpenter, you will take on a leadership role, overseeing a crew that may include journeymen, apprentices, and laborers. Your responsibilities will include coordinating daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring that all work meets quality standards and project timelines. You will be expected to train your crew in best practices and techniques to enhance their craftsmanship. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with team members, subcontractors, and designers. You will also be responsible for managing project budgets, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and resolving any conflicts that may arise on the job site. Like the Journeyman role, the ability to lift 80 lbs is a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Layout, cutting rafters and stair stringers, side walling, and roofing as a Journeyman Carpenter.
  • Read and interpret building plans effectively.
  • Work independently with minimal instruction.
  • Provide input on job planning regarding time and materials.
  • Train and mentor crew members as a Foreman Carpenter.
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans.
  • Delegate responsibilities to crew members and contractors.
  • Manage and mentor employees and contractors.
  • Ensure safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and quality standards.
  • Report project status to supervisors and site engineers.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently without much instruction.
  • Proficient in reading and implementing plans.
  • Ownership of a full set of tools.
  • Knowledge of basic rafters, windows, doors, layout and production framing, stairs and railings, fastening schedule, interior trim, built-ins, and cabinetry.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to the highest quality.
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs.
  • Must have a vehicle.
  • Pursue or possess a Construction Supervisor's License (CSL).
  • Leadership skills to run a crew as a Foreman Carpenter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and designers.
