About the position

Walters Buildings, a leading family-owned post frame builder in the Midwest, is seeking motivated and hardworking crew laborers in the Rochelle, IL area. This position involves performing rough carpentry duties and tasks necessary for the safe and efficient construction of quality post frame buildings. As a crew laborer, you will engage in a variety of projects, from pole sheds to luxury homes, ensuring that each structure meets the high standards set by the company. The role requires a commitment to safety and efficiency, with a focus on completing quality building projects. You will be responsible for tasks such as digging and installing footings, setting posts, nailing girts, setting trusses, installing purlins and roofing materials, framing out and installing windows and doors, and affixing siding with metal trims. In addition to the physical aspects of the job, you will operate various tools and equipment, including tape measures, impact drivers, circular saws, nail guns, hammers, speed squares, metal shears, metal nibblers, skid steers, personnel lifts, and telehandlers. The work environment can be demanding, requiring the ability to perform tasks in extreme weather conditions and to lift and carry heavy materials. Responsibilities

  • Perform rough carpentry duties and tasks needed to construct quality post frame buildings.
  • Learn and follow safety and construction procedures, methods, and standards.
  • Complete quality building projects by digging and installing footings, setting posts, nailing girts, setting trusses, and installing roofing materials.
  • Frame out and install windows and doors, affix siding, and finish with metal trims.
  • Operate tools and equipment including tape measure, impact driver, circular saw, nail gun, hammer, speed square, metal sheer, metal nibbler, skid steers, personnel lifts, and telehandlers.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate with team members and supervisors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of carpentry, construction, or related experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Basic carpentry skills including basic math, hammering, and use of measuring tools.
  • Ability to read building plans and work at various heights.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Scissor Lift Certification.
  • Basic construction knowledge and a desire to learn.
