About the position

The Carpenter/Locksmith position at the University of South Carolina involves performing new installations and maintenance of various structures and systems, including drywall, metal stud framing, and locks. This full-time position is essential during emergencies and requires flexibility in scheduling, including participation in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise temporary and/or seasonal staff that assist by performing minor skilled work.
  • Inspect facilities, systems, and their components for safety and necessary repairs, providing ongoing preventive maintenance.
  • Perform new installations including metal stud framing, drywall, windows, doors, hardware, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Perform locksmith duties including installing, maintaining, and repairing various types of building locks and panic hardware.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment, and report maintenance issues.

Requirements

  • Accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program.
  • 2 or more years of experience in carpentry or locksmithing, or an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • Experience in wood and steel stud framing, drywall installation and repairs, and hardware installation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Commercial experience combined in locksmith and carpentry as a journeyman technician.
  • Completion of formal trade school or apprenticeship in carpentry or locksmithing.
