About the position

The Carpenter position at the Parks Maintenance Group - Tree Tops Park involves skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of wooden articles and structures. The role requires collaboration with other carpenters, electricians, and maintenance staff to complete major repairs and construction projects throughout the parks system. The position operates under close to general supervision, allowing for some autonomy in task completion.

Responsibilities

  • Installs partitions, whiteboards, chalkboards, posters, paintings, plaques, and shelving.
  • Performs general office upkeep including redesign, countertops, and frosting windows.
  • Demos, repairs, and installs wood, metal stud, block, concrete, stucco, drywall, and Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP).
  • Performs structural repair and redesign.
  • Repairs and assembles large office desks, furniture, cabinets, chairs, cubicles, dividers, computer trays, and shelves.
  • Loads, transports, and unloads furniture as needed.
  • Performs locksmith duties by cutting keys, rekeying locks, and repairing and installing door hardware.
  • Repairs and installs roofing, including patching and fixing leaks.
  • Installs, repairs, and finishes ceilings, interior drywall, and acoustical tile grids and tiles.
  • Maintains structures and buildings to ensure a safe environment for the public.
  • Repairs, forms, places, and finishes concrete, including mixing 80 lb. bag goods and filling cracks in sidewalk expansion joints.
  • Performs upkeep and repair of all previously installed signage.
  • Repairs or makes adjustments to ticket counters, vendor areas, break rooms, offices, and Rental Center.
  • Repairs and installs ceramic tile, Vinyl composition tile (VCT), laminate, carpet tile, and performs structural repairs.
  • Repairs and installs wood base, vinyl base, tile base, terrazzo base, and stucco.
  • Maintains warehouse storage facility and transports, loads, and unloads materials as needed.
  • Constructs and assembles commercial grade storage shelving.
  • Cleans and organizes carpenter area as needed.
  • Operates motor vehicles, man-lifts, fork lifts, and scissor lifts as needed.
  • Prepares purchasing requisitions for all door hardware for maintenance and service.
  • Designs, fabricates, finishes, and installs custom cabinetry including fabrication of doors, drawers, and installation of slides, locks, stops, hinges, handles, glass, and lighting as needed.
  • Removes, repairs, and installs all types of flooring, including plywood and supporting floor joists, vinyl tile, carpet, ceramic tile, and rubber mats.
  • Replaces and installs broken window glass and bathroom mirrors, including tinting/frosting.
  • Cleans and maintains all tools in shop and trucks, performing adjustments to extend their useful life.
  • Prepares log sheets, reports, records, and documents work activities.
  • Tracks equipment usage and provides summary information to management.
  • Performs preventive facility maintenance and emergency repairs in facilities, grounds, roofs, and landscape areas.

Requirements

  • Requires two (2) years experience in construction and/or maintenance carpentry or closely related experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduation from an accredited Finish Carpentry Vocational School.
  • Certified Welder.
  • CDL A or B with Air Brake Endorsement.
  • OSHA Safety Certificate (General, Construction).
  • At least three years of experience reading and building top specifications off of blueprints or technical drawings.
  • At least three years working with the Florida Building Code and complying with its standards and regulations.
  • Two years of experience in drafting software.
  • Mechanical Journey Level/Certificate of Competency.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language (Spanish, French/Creole).
