About the position
The Carpenter position at Hensel Phelps involves constructing and repairing building frameworks and structures, which includes stairways, doorframes, partitions, rafters, cabinetry, siding, and drywall. Carpenters are expected to pay great attention to detail and possess a strong understanding of both wood and metal properties. This role requires the ability to perform various carpenter support activities typically carried out by laborers, making it a versatile and safety-sensitive position. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all tasks are completed to the highest standards of quality and safety, adhering to the company's safety and health program throughout the work process. In this role, carpenters will be tasked with assembling and removing forms used for concrete installation, utilizing a variety of hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, handsaws, skill saws, and drills. They will also be responsible for building and installing window frames, doors, staircases, partitions, and overall building frames. A critical part of the job involves reading blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully understand project requirements, as well as taking precise measurements and calculating the necessary materials for each task. Carpenters will also be responsible for ensuring that the layout of flooring, roofing, and drywall is leveled and compatible, promoting a safe work environment by communicating job site hazards and securing the job site at the end of each day. Overall, this position requires a reliable and punctual individual who can effectively communicate with co-workers and stakeholders, demonstrating strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills. Responsibilities
- Construct and repair building frameworks and structures including stairways, doorframes, partitions, rafters, cabinetry, siding, and drywall.
- Assemble and remove forms used for concrete installation.
- Utilize assorted hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, handsaws, skill saws, and drills.
- Build and install window frames, doors, staircases, partitions, millwork, trim, siding, drywall, and overall building frames.
- Ensure that the layout of flooring, roofing, and drywall is leveled and compatible.
- Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand project requirements.
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed for projects.
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, distributing them according to project plans.
- Promote a safe work environment and communicate job site hazards, securing the job site at the end of each day.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver's License is required.
- Ability to follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
- Must be able to take initiative and ask questions.
- Possess a keen attention to detail and be able to follow instructions.
- Workers must provide their own safety footwear.
- Effective and professional communication skills with co-workers and stakeholders.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading, and shop drawing reading.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
