About the position

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our Facilities Management team at the Muhlenberg location. This full-time position operates on a day shift schedule, from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. As a Carpenter, you will play a crucial role in constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing various woodworking elements, including casework, cabinetry, and shelving. Your expertise will also extend to maintaining and repairing doors and associated hardware, ensuring that fire and smoke walls meet required safety ratings, and installing wall protection as needed. In this role, you will respond to trouble calls and work requests, addressing emergency situations promptly. You will utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document your time and work completion efficiently. Infection Control measures (ICRA) will be a critical aspect of your projects and maintenance tasks, ensuring a safe environment for both staff and patients. You will also assist colleagues from various trades, procure materials, and maintain inventory to support the department's operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry and building construction, with at least three years of relevant experience. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in carpentry techniques and possess a solid understanding of building construction principles. The ability to analyze and resolve problems using basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles is essential, along with mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity. A valid Pennsylvania driver's license is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, installs, maintains, and repairs casework, cabinetry, shelving, and various aspects of woodworking.
  • Maintains and repairs doors and associated hardware, with a preference for knowledge of automatic doors.
  • Maintains fire and smoke walls to ensure they meet required ratings.
  • Responds to trouble calls, work requests, and emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the CMMS Work order system to document time and work completion.
  • Installs wall protection as needed.
  • Provides Infection Control measures (ICRA) for projects and maintenance as required.
  • Assists department colleagues of all trades in various tasks.
  • Procures materials and maintains inventory for carpentry projects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in carpentry, building construction, or cabinetry.
  • Proficiency in carpentry techniques and building construction knowledge.
  • Analytical ability to resolve problems using basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity are essential.
  • Good physical condition is required for the demands of the job.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical School Diploma preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA code requirements for fire and smoke walls, fire and smoke doors, and egress.
