About the position

The Carpenter position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Engineering Service involves independently planning, laying out, and completing various carpentry tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for assembling, constructing, installing, modifying, repairing, and removing both interior and exterior items around the facility, ensuring all work is completed in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Plan and layout work independently with little to no supervision.
• Determine and use correct methods, equipment, and materials to complete job assignments at the journeyman level.
• Assemble, construct, install, modify, repair, and remove various interior and exterior items including walls, windows, ceilings, and furniture.
• Complete preventive maintenance and establish inspection intervals and procedures.
• Maintain records on all repairs and materials related to the maintenance and repair shop.
• Clean and maintain shop equipment and worksite.
• Maintain and operate carpenter and locksmith trade tools and equipment.
• Complete all required VA training and certifications.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to perform carpentry work at a journeyman level.
• Experience using various carpentry tools and equipment such as drill presses, routers, and saws.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of shop practices and maintenance of tools and equipment.
