About the position

The Carpenter position at Salt Lake County involves performing carpentry work at the journeyman level, applying trade skills to construct, erect, install, fabricate, dismantle, and repair various structures using wood, metal, and other building materials. The role emphasizes teamwork and community service, contributing to a safe and beautiful environment in Salt Lake County.

Responsibilities

  • Construct walls and other structures, including window and door frames, staircases, and flooring.
  • Perform repairs on existing framework structures that are damaged or needing remodel.
  • Accomplish finishing work by trimming, fitting, and installing windows, doors, moldings, and cabinetry.
  • Lay out and construct forms for concrete structures, and smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete.
  • Evaluate roofing system needs, install new roofing, and repair damages.
  • Hang, install, patch, and finish drywall, including texture matching.
  • Perform commercial type painting and maintain surfaces, including parking lot striping and curb painting.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and safety instructions, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain records of work requests and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with loading and unloading dock deliveries and maintain facility grounds.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in carpentry or related fields.
  • A valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various carpentry techniques including framing, finish carpentry, and drywall installation.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and standard safety practices.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with the public and co-workers.
