About the position

The Washington Nationals are seeking a skilled carpenter to join their facility operations team. This role requires a tradesperson with expertise in carpentry technologies, maintenance, installation, and repair of door and lock systems, as well as a comprehensive understanding of various wall and flooring technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and functionality of the ballpark and its facilities, contributing to both baseball and non-baseball events. In this position, the carpenter will access the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to review and complete work orders, interpret blueprints and specifications, and utilize a variety of manual and power tools to support various projects. The role involves performing maintenance and repair tasks on systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression, as well as general upkeep activities. The carpenter will also oversee contractors, maintain accurate records of labor and materials, and ensure that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. The carpenter will be expected to support baseball games and related events, as well as non-baseball events like concerts and weddings. This includes setting up equipment, performing painting and masonry work, and reconfiguring office spaces as needed. The position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to OSHA standards, as well as the ability to work effectively under pressure and in a team-oriented environment. Responsibilities

  • Access CMMS to review & complete work orders
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, and schematic manufacturer's specifications
  • Use a variety of manual and power tools to support projects
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required in a team-oriented environment
  • Support baseball games and baseball-related events before, during, and post-game
  • Support non-baseball events including concerts, meetings, weddings, and large gatherings
  • Accurately maintain records of labor time, parts used, and work accomplished
  • Complete required administrative paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely manner
  • Operate equipment used in the maintenance of convention and arena facilities such as forklifts and high lifts
  • Set up equipment and tools for safe operation at job sites
  • Assist in maintenance and repair of systems and equipment including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire suppression
  • Oversee and provide direction to contractors and other labor providers
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrate attention to detail
  • Perform painting, carpentry, and masonry work
  • Reconfigure, install, position, and remount modular offices and space
  • Perform duties with a view toward department goals and resource conservation
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Support third-party tenants and rental spaces within the ballpark
  • Fabricate and install doors, windows, walls, and flooring
  • Maintain and repair ballpark seating, railing, masonry, floors, and floor coverings
  • Coordinate work with Carpentry Manager and other skilled trades
  • Maintain keys/locksets and install and/or repair components of high-security key systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED, or equivalent military experience
  • Completion of an approved apprentice/vocational program or five years of progressively responsible experience
  • Applicable license/certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to respond to worksite within 90 minutes in the event of an emergency
  • Working knowledge of PC-based computer applications
  • Knowledge of standard work practices and methods, OSHA safety standards, fire and building codes
  • Ability to work safely and effectively under pressure in meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to understand and apply principles to solve practical problems
  • Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to effectively communicate via electronic means
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users
  • Ability and eagerness to work in a team-oriented maintenance department
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue
