About the position

The Putnam County School District is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our maintenance team. This position requires a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of five years of experience in carpentry. The successful candidate will possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record. The Carpenter will be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, as well as performing various carpentry tasks including the framing and installation of doors and windows, and the repair, renovation, or remodeling of district facilities as needed. The role also involves maintaining carpentry tools and equipment, requisitioning materials and supplies, and keeping a log of work orders. The Carpenter will work closely with maintenance helpers and other tradesmen to ensure that all work is completed in accordance with established plans, codes, and regulations. Safety is a top priority, and the Carpenter will be expected to follow all safety rules and maintain a clean working environment. This position is full-time, requiring eight hours of work per day, and is classified under the skilled crafts workers category. The performance of this job will be evaluated according to the district's personnel evaluation policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in your position.
  • Framing and installation of doors and windows.
  • Repair, renovate or remodel facilities as needed.
  • Maintain carpentry tools and equipment necessary to perform duties. Inventory tools and materials.
  • Perform administrative duties such as requisitioning materials and supplies and keeping a log of work orders.
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines or power saw.
  • Supervise maintenance helpers/assistants to ascertain their work in accordance with plans.
  • Perform construction duties in accordance with blueprints, codes and regulations.
  • Assist other tradesmen or perform carpentry duties in conjunction with other trades.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Five years experience as a carpenter.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Knowledge of current Human Resource leave system and Skyward inventory system (if applicable).
  • Skill to build structures from blueprints and schematics, including specialty furniture.
  • Knowledge of State statutes, Department of Education regulations and School Board codes related to construction, health and safety.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, carpentry tools and building maintenance.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Effective verbal, listening, communication and time management skills.
