About the position

The Carpenter at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, construction, alterations, and fabrications across various facilities. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of carpentry practices and the ability to work on a wide range of building components, ensuring the upkeep and functionality of the facilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly involving construction, alterations, repairs, renovations, and modifications.
• Performs maintenance and repair tasks on various structures and building components.
• Installs, repairs, or replaces building hardware including locks, door closers, and hinges.
• Repairs, replaces, or installs roofs, roofing materials, eaves, gutters, and downspouts.
• Modifies, installs, assembles, removes, or repairs structures, partitions, walls, cabinets, and furniture.
• Sands, scrapes, paints, stains, varnishes, and performs other finishing tasks to complete assigned work.
• Performs tasks in other maintenance and repair or construction trades such as locksmith work, tile setting, masonry, painting, glazing, and cabinet making.

Requirements

• Must have evidence of training or experience in carpentry or related fields.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 100 pounds and working in uncomfortable positions.
• Good hand and eye coordination for accurate measurements and completing tight-fitting work.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with blueprint reading and interpreting building plans.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in construction and maintenance.
