About the position

The Carpenter position at UW Medical Center - Montlake involves performing skilled carpentry and related work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment and facilities. This role is essential in ensuring that the medical center's infrastructure is well-maintained and functional, contributing to the overall mission of providing high-quality patient care. The Carpenter will work as part of a dedicated team, supporting UW Medicine's commitment to putting patients first. The work schedule is set for 40 hours per week during the day shift, allowing for a consistent work-life balance. In this role, the Carpenter will be responsible for a variety of tasks including the installation of metal stud framing, hanging sheetrock, and installing doors and windows along with their hardware. The position also requires repairing various structures such as floors, walls, ceilings, and furniture, ensuring that all areas of the medical center are safe and operational. Additionally, the Carpenter will build and install cabinets and other fixtures, which are crucial for the functionality of the medical environment. The Carpenter will also be tasked with adjusting, repairing, or replacing locks, weather stripping, and other hardware, as well as repairing or altering buildings and structures based on plans or instructions. Operating power equipment such as saws and sanders is a key part of the job, requiring the Carpenter to maintain and repair this equipment to ensure safety and efficiency in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Install metal stud framing, hang sheet rock, install doors and windows, and install door hardware.
  • Install and repair ceiling grid and ceiling tiles.
  • Repair floors, walls, ceilings, screens, windows, sashes, doors, furniture, wood chairs, fixtures, stairs, cupboards, loose Formica, and roofs.
  • Build and install cabinets, furniture, and other fixtures such as blood pressure gauges, cup-towel-toilet paper dispensers, shelving, bulletin boards, whiteboards, sharps containers, glove box holders, and medicine cabinets.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace locks, weather stripping, screens, mirrors, brackets, window blinds, curtain tracks, handrails, hinges, closures, and panic hardware.
  • Repair or alter buildings, sheds, scaffolds, partitions, concrete forms, and other structures from plans, sketches, or instructions; may construct new infrastructure from blueprints and specifications.
  • Operate power equipment such as saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers, boring, and mortising machines; clean, sharpen, maintain, and repair such equipment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a carpenter; or full journey status as a carpenter in a union; or four years' applicable work experience.
  • Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
