About the position

The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) is seeking a skilled Cartographer and Visual Designer to produce visual products that convey intelligence analysis for various stakeholders, including U.S. policymakers and law enforcement officials. This role involves applying cartographic principles and graphic design skills to develop original products that facilitate the understanding of complex issues related to national security.

Responsibilities

• Produce thematic and reference maps, and contribute to design projects including charts, graphs, timelines, infographics, and presentation visuals.
• Work directly with customers to plan and coordinate the research, design, and digital production of cartographic and graphic design products.
• Apply knowledge of cartographic principles and software applications to develop original products that convey intelligence analysis.
• Coordinate and adjust project schedules based on changing mission and customer requirements.
• Manage multiple projects under minimal supervision as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Develop and maintain skills in line with industry best practices.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship and residency in the United States.
• Ability to establish contacts and demonstrate tact and discretion in managing relationships.
• Thorough knowledge of software applications for thematic map design, including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and data management.
• Experience in design and production methodology for publishing products in various formats.
• Ability to adapt to new software skills and production methodologies.
• Five to seven years of experience in cartography or geospatial information systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, GIS, graphic design, or fine arts with a focus on graphic design.
• Knowledge of graphic design software and multimedia programming.
• Experience in a national agency, law enforcement organization, or combatant command.
