About the position

The Cartographer (GIS) position within the Department of Defense involves preparing briefs and presentations for various GPS users, performing data manipulation for standardization and compliance, and documenting office activities. The role requires analyzing applications, systems, and processes to provide recommendations, ensuring quality assurance and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare briefs and presentations for a range of GPS users (novice to expert).
  • Perform data manipulation for standardization and compliance, including altering geographic projections, registration and rectification, data definitions and documentation, edge matching and mosaicing, and quality assurance/quality control.
  • Document office activities, maintain desktop procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and inventory reports.
  • Analyze applications, systems, and processes to make recommendations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must complete training and obtain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Ability to travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites.
