About the position

The Cartographer I position at Avangrid involves maintaining computer systems for modeling electric distribution systems in accordance with company procedures and standards. The role requires interaction with internal customers to provide technical assistance and support, ensuring the accuracy and quality of GIS data related to electric distribution.

Responsibilities

• Performs updates to electric distribution and related computer model transactions.
• Performs quality control checks of GIS data on related distribution systems.
• Provides specialty maps such as switch and wall maps for Service Centers as requested.
• Assists in data requests for regulatory agencies.
• Performs daily maintenance for multiple service centers using ArcGIS software.
• Performs layout of new facilities for electric distribution systems.
• Attends quarterly safety meetings.
• Other ancillary duties related to the core functions of the job as assigned.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of the GIS system.
• Able to assist others with understanding of transactions.
• Able to read, interpret, and analyze basic design sketches.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to interact with other technical support personnel, users, and management.
• Able to interface with internal clients.
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• 2 years experience as a GIS Technician or 2 years related work experience.
• Ability to run associated supporting software systems, e.g., ArcGIS, Smartmap, Circuit Map Editor, Microsoft Office Suite, SAP.
