About the position

At Royce Geo, we are seeking a Junior Cartographer to join our team in St. Louis, MO. This position is integral to our mission of providing exceptional geospatial services to our clients in the Defense and Intelligence Community. As a Junior Cartographer, you will be responsible for compiling and updating maritime features and attributes on low complexity data sets for various portfolios including SFH DNC/ENC/CPENC/LPC/DWC/TOD/SMENC/AML. You will work within an ESRI-based Vector-Cartographic Production System (VCPS) enterprise Geospatial Information System production environment, utilizing virtual desktop application (VDA) workstations. Your role will involve evaluating a variety of sources such as rasterized nautical charts, digital hydrographic survey data, Notices to Mariners (NtM), topographic maps, and orthorectified imagery. You will recommend optimal sources to be included in low complexity source packages and perform quality control checks on the data against the sources used. Additionally, you will document any discrepancies and ensure compliance with NGA guidance. This position requires a TS/SCI clearance and at least one year of demonstrated experience in cartographic finishing and feature extraction from various imagery sources. Responsibilities

  • Compile or update maritime features and attributes on low complexity data sets for various portfolios.
  • Evaluate sources such as rasterized nautical charts, digital hydrographic survey data, and topographic maps to recommend optimal sources for inclusion.
  • Perform quality control checks on data against the sources used and identify discrepancies.
  • Document features and attribution that are not in compliance with the sources used or NGA guidance.
  • Assist in the final approval assessment of the data after contractor review.

Requirements

  • TS/SCI Clearance required.
  • 1 year of demonstrated cartographic finishing experience.
  • 1 year of experience using ESRI ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience loading raster and vector files for viewing/reviewing multiple overlapping data sets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience creating, editing, and manipulating shapefiles and geodatabases.
  • Knowledge of generalization rules and symbolization rules.
  • Experience using imagery for nautical chart compilation.
  • Experience performing manual or automated bulk quality checks.
  • Knowledge of geospatial database content management.
