About the position

As a Cartographer at Booz Allen, you will play a crucial role in transforming map data into valuable information that supports the intelligence community and national security industries. Your expertise in cartographic standardization principles, best practices, and procedures will be essential as you collaborate with a team of graphic designers, cartographers, and intelligence analysts. Together, you will extract meaning and context from various data sources, utilizing tools such as ArcGIS and Map Publisher to develop innovative methods for identifying patterns and connections that address client needs. In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining and creating geographic databases, which include shapefiles, hard copy maps, rasters, vectors, imagery, and geographic data. You will also distribute necessary files to designers in appropriate formats and conduct cartographic-based requests for clients. Your visualization skills will be put to use as you create density graphics and heat maps, ensuring that intelligence analysts and senior briefers have timely access to critical information. Your work will directly contribute to supporting warfighters, protecting national security, and informing the nation's leaders. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to excellence in cartographic design. You will be expected to apply your knowledge of GIS principles, data types, and classification guidelines to produce high-quality cartographic products that meet the needs of our clients. Your ability to collect, analyze, and integrate geographic and substantive data will be key to your success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with graphic designers, cartographers, and intelligence analysts to extract meaning from data sources.
  • Develop innovative methods to identify patterns and connections using ArcGIS and Map Publisher.
  • Maintain and create geographic databases, including shapefiles, hard copy maps, rasters, vectors, and imagery.
  • Distribute geographic data files to designers in appropriate formats.
  • Conduct cartographic-based requests for clients.
  • Create density graphics and heat maps for intelligence analysts and senior briefers.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience with cartography.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe Suite, ArcGIS, Map Publisher plug-in, Google Earth, and KML.
  • Knowledge of cartographic design principles, including color theory, symbology, map projections, and thematic mapping.
  • Knowledge of GIS principles, including data types, data layers, and geographic coordinate systems.
  • Ability to apply IC and DoD classification guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to use cartography tools, including ArcGIS Maps, ArcGIS Pro, Remote View, and ArcMap.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and integrate geographic and substantive data into cartographic products.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cartography, Geography, or Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).
