About the position

As a Cartographer at the CIA, you will research, design, and produce thematic and reference maps that support complex intelligence analysis for senior policymakers, including the President of the United States. This role involves working on regional accounts and requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to manage multiple mapping projects. You will also be expected to develop regional expertise and provide substantive input into the final map products.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, and produce thematic and reference maps for intelligence analysis.
• Collaborate with analytic colleagues to define project requirements.
• Manage multiple mapping projects under minimal supervision.
• Develop and maintain regional expertise to inform map products.
• Participate in internal training and external workshops, training, and conferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cartography, Geography, or Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).
• At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale preferred.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and integrate geographic and substantive data into cartographic products.
• Knowledge of cartographic design principles and GIS principles.
• Ability to work periodic shift work, including nights and weekends.
• Meet minimum requirements for joining CIA, including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation.

Nice-to-haves

• Proficient in GIS software and platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS.
• Experience with Adobe software including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
• Familiarity with Avenza MAPublisher and Intergraph GeoMedia Pro.
• Knowledge of HTML and programming languages.
• Experience with web and mobile conveyance.
