CASD School Crossing Guard

About the position

The School Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety of students as they cross the street to and from school. This role involves supervising and directing school children, controlling vehicular traffic, and maintaining a safe environment around the crossing area. The Crossing Guard must be vigilant in monitoring for potential dangers and reminding students about safety protocols, including stranger danger. The position requires a commitment to punctuality and professionalism, as well as effective communication with both students and motorists.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and give instructions to students for safe crossing.
• Direct school children to cross the street without unreasonable delay when safe.
• Control vehicular traffic to ensure the safe crossing of school children.
• Inform motorists through appropriate hand motions that children are about to cross.
• Report motorists who fail to comply with traffic laws and endanger children.
• Maintain a high standard of personal conduct and appearance while on duty.
• Maintain a polite and courteous attitude at all times while on duty.
• Keep equipment in a neat and clean condition.
• Be present at the assigned post on time each day school is in session.
• Report all absences to the school and the Crossing Guard Coordinator.

• Ability to make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
• Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
• Ability to work with school age children.
• Willingness to work outside in all kinds of weather.
