About the position

The Case Manager/Child Support position is responsible for locating absent parents, establishing paternity, enforcing child support and medical insurance, registering foreign support orders, and reviewing and modifying court-ordered child support. The role involves a variety of tasks including initiating locate efforts, interviewing custodial parents, preparing legal documents, and attending court hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates locate efforts through various sources and networks.
  • Interviews custodial parents to obtain additional locate information.
  • Prepares and sends a Uniform Interstate Family Support Act application to custodial parents.
  • Writes to custodial parents for additional information needed for interstate child support cases.
  • Reviews existing court orders for validity and legal action.
  • Prepares interstate child support petitions for filing in responding states.
  • Schedules appointments with custodial parents to sign and notarize petitions.
  • Monitors case progress according to federal timeframes and guidelines.
  • Coordinates service of non-custodial parents with local and statewide Sheriff departments.
  • Prepares and distributes child support court calendars for Superior Court Judges.
  • Attends weekly court hearings and negotiates appropriate dispositions.
  • Researches and composes legal documents such as support orders and contempt citations.
  • Researches public assistance data to determine owed monies to the State of Georgia.
  • Coordinates paternity testing when necessary.
  • Monitors payment status on cases and documents all actions.
  • Researches and corrects money distribution problems and account balances.
  • Coordinates with other child support offices on payment distribution problems.
  • Attends necessary state training classes and seminars.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate's Degree with coursework in paralegal work and civil and criminal procedures preferred.
  • Three (3) years of previous experience in customer service and child support enforcement or legal environment preferred.
