About the position

The Case Manager/Paralegal position is a full-time role based in the New York City Metropolitan Area, focusing on supporting case teams throughout all stages of litigation. The role involves managing document production, preparing for depositions and trials, conducting factual research, and collaborating with various departments to ensure effective case management. This hybrid position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to civil rights and public interest law.

Responsibilities

  • Support case teams during all stages of litigation, from inception through trial and appeal.
  • Manage the production of hard copy and electronic documents, including collecting documents from clients and handling logistics of document productions.
  • Prepare for depositions, conferences, and hearings by compiling documents and managing logistical details.
  • Attend and prepare for trials, including compiling trial exhibits and coordinating with courtroom staff.
  • Conduct factual research and summarize information, preparing chronologies as needed.
  • Organize and maintain hard copy and electronic case files.
  • Collaborate with the eDiscovery and Litigation Support Department, using databases and eDiscovery tools.
  • Assist in drafting motion papers and other legal documents, ensuring compliance with local rules.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Clerk's Office to prepare and file court documents and maintain court calendars.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years' prior litigation law firm experience required.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new tools.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, proactively updating on work status.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Ability to balance tasks of varying urgency and complexity under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with eDiscovery tools and databases.
  • Familiarity with legal document formatting and filing procedures.
