About the position

Elior North America is seeking an experienced Cash Application Specialist to join their centralized accounting organization in Houston, TX. This full-time role involves the prompt and accurate processing of customer payments, managing accounts receivable aging, and ensuring compliance with financial policies. The specialist will handle a significant volume of transactions, requiring analytical skills to research and reconcile cash application variances, while also maintaining strong client relationships to facilitate timely payment collections.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve payment escalation and discrepancy inquiries related to cash application.
  • Research remittance and transaction details to resolve unapplied cash, unidentified cash, and payment variations.
  • Verify duplicate payments and follow up with customers to issue refunds.
  • Maintain compliance with internal and external financial policies and procedures, including PCI standards.
  • Manage the end-to-end payment process from presentment to settlement, including declined transactions and chargeback resolution.
  • Ensure outstanding collections are kept up to date regarding client outstanding balances and manage the AR aging process.
  • Utilize available tools to identify opportunities for optimizing Cash Applications and Collections processes.
  • Assist in special Cash Application and Collection related projects, including support for external auditors and cash application testing.
  • Reconcile general ledger cash accounts to bank statements.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting or business-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in Cash Application or related role.
  • General computer competency, including advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with accounting ERP software such as Great Plains or SAP.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate uncertain situations and make informed decisions.
  • Developed organizational and project management skills.
