About the position

The Cash Receivable Technician plays a crucial role in managing cash collections, reimbursements, and customer service within the Patient Business Services department. This position involves complex data entry, account reconciliation, and independent decision-making to ensure accurate financial reporting and patient account management. The technician will work closely with insurance companies and other stakeholders to process payments and resolve discrepancies, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Reconstruct account transactions showing charges & payments for complex insurance remits.
  • Perform complex data entry of patient receivables and ensure balancing with bank statements.
  • Receive and reconcile monies, making bank deposits as necessary.
  • Process receipts and remittance advices from insurance companies according to cash handling procedures.
  • Make independent decisions affecting financial reporting and patient accounts.
  • Use OHSU computer programs to ensure accurate posting of payments to hospital accounts.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze complex financial reports.
  • Analyze insurance remittance advices and resolve patient account discrepancies.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is provided for decision-making.
  • Respond to inquiries about cash handling, payments, and deposits.

Requirements

  • Completion of Associate's degree in accounting/bookkeeping and 1 year of experience; OR two years of accounting technician/bookkeeping experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typing speed of 55+ wpm.
  • 10-key/data entry experience of 125 kspm with accuracy.
  • Ability to use multiple system applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hospital business office experience within six months of hire date.
  • Kronos experience.
  • Epic Resolute Professional Billing & Hospital Billing experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills including macros and pivot tables.
