About the position

As a Cashier I Inside Sales at Builders FirstSource, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring smooth transactions at our retail locations. Your primary responsibility will be to greet incoming customers in a pleasant and professional manner, processing their payments efficiently and accurately. You will be the face of our company, representing our values and commitment to customer satisfaction. Your duties will include counting money to verify amounts, issuing receipts for funds received, and handling various forms of payment including cash, credit cards, and checks. You will also be responsible for packaging customer purchases and thanking them for their business, ensuring they leave with a positive impression of our store. In addition to processing transactions, you will assist customers by providing product information, directing them to the appropriate product pick-up points, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. You will open and close the cash register, accurately document all transactions, and balance receipts at the end of your shift. Your role will also involve providing prompt and efficient telephone service, assisting in pricing and stocking inventory, and participating in annual physical inventory activities. Safety is a priority, and you will be expected to understand and observe all safety procedures to prevent injury to yourself and your co-workers. Other duties may be assigned as needed, contributing to the overall success of the team and store operations.

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers and receives payment; issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers; packages customer purchases; thanks customers for their business.
  • Acknowledges incoming customers in a pleasant manner and provides product information, location, and general store knowledge.
  • Directs customers to product pick-up point, if necessary.
  • Opens and closes-out till and accurately documents all transactions, makes accurate change, verifies credit cards and checks, and balances receipts.
  • Provides prompt and efficient telephone service.
  • Keeps work area clean and neat.
  • Assists in pricing and stocking inventory, display preparation and maintenance, and maintains quality store presentation.
  • Participates in annual physical inventory activities.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and six (6) months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong customer service skills both face-to-face and telephone.
  • Working knowledge in the use and operation of a cash register.
  • Good mathematical aptitude.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented.
