About the position

The Cashier position at Ace Hardware is a part-time role focused on providing exceptional customer service while managing cash transactions. The primary responsibility includes overseeing cashiers, ensuring smooth operations at the register, and maintaining a welcoming environment for customers. The role requires effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to train and lead a team of cashiers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure each customer receives outstanding service following the S.A.L.E.S process.
  • Greet customers as they enter the store.
  • Troubleshoot point-of-sale problems.
  • Effectively train and direct the activities of cashiers assigned to the front end.
  • Ensure that associates follow all policies and procedures, including safety procedures.
  • Perform cash pulls and make change orders per established policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of merchandise displays in the front-end area.
  • Manage customer lines and call for backup cashiers when necessary.
  • Restock returned merchandise to the correct product location.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and transfer them as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Perform register sales transactions quickly and accurately.
  • Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards card or set up a B2B account.
  • Act as lead cashier, training and reviewing the work of cashiers.
  • Assist with online and curbside orders.
  • Conduct Cashiers meetings and provide training for new associates.
  • Order and maintain all register supplies.
  • Advise management of any policy violations by associates.
  • Assist management in interviewing new cashiers.
  • Relay communication between associates and management.
  • Assist customers with complaints, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Watch for shoplifters and take appropriate action according to company policy.
