The Cashier/Checker position at Kroger is focused on delivering outstanding customer service while ensuring a safe and clean shopping environment. The Cashier/Checker is responsible for engaging with customers, handling various payment methods, and adhering to company policies and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Greet, engage, and assist customers actively.
• Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently through the check lane.
• Understand and operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, handling various payment methods including cash, checks, credit, debit, and SNAP EBT.
• Adhere to company policies regarding cash shortages and overages, and work to control loss.
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Follow established policies for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
• Stay informed about current, future, seasonal, and special ads.
• Comply with all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by identifying unsafe conditions and notifying management.
• Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and report any issues to the appropriate department or store manager.
• Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering product-related questions and providing assistance throughout the store.

Requirements

• Customer service experience
• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk
