About the position

As a Cashier/Checker at Kroger, you will play a vital role in creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Your primary responsibility will be to process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently while actively engaging with customers to ensure they feel welcome and appreciated. You will be expected to establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. This position requires you to demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety of others. In this role, you will be visible and actively greet, engage, and assist customers throughout their shopping experience. You will handle various payment methods, including cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, and coupons, while adhering to company policies regarding restricted sale items such as alcohol and tobacco. You will also be responsible for reporting any pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator and staying current with seasonal and special ads. Additionally, you will need to comply with all food safety regulations and guidelines, reinforcing safety programs by identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management of any issues. Preventive maintenance is also a key aspect of this role, as you will be required to inspect equipment and report any items in need of repair. Your ability to communicate effectively and handle stressful situations will be essential in ensuring a smooth checkout process and a positive shopping experience for our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Greet, engage, and assist customers actively throughout their shopping experience.
  • Understand and adhere to the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle various payment methods.
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of any repairs needed.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated.

Requirements

  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
