The Cashier position at Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) involves engaging with customers to provide efficient checkout services while ensuring a pleasant shopping experience. The role requires the cashier to bag and transport groceries, locate products, and conduct price verifications. Cashiers must maintain proficiency in handling transactions and ensure the accuracy of tender. This position also entails performing various customer service duties while upholding a safe and sanitary shopping environment. In this role, cashiers are responsible for ensuring correct checkout totals by properly weighing, keying, and scanning items. They must maintain an accurate money count in the register at all times and remain familiar with product codes, advertisements, and special items. Cashiers are expected to stay current on tender policies and procedures related to various payment methods, including checks, credit, debit, coupons, EBT, WIC, and others. A friendly and customer-service-oriented attitude is essential, as cashiers greet customers, answer questions, locate and promote products, and respond to complaints. Additionally, cashiers promote enrollment in the Thank You Card program and assist customers with the sign-up process when applicable. They must ensure groceries are bagged properly, taking care to group like items, limit bag weight, prevent food cross-contamination, and ensure customers receive all purchased items. Cashiers are also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of front-end racks, drink coolers, and cleaning supply stations, while adhering to company safety procedures and complying with all local, state, and federal laws regarding the sale of restricted items such as tobacco and alcohol.
