About the position

The Cashier at Academy Sports + Outdoors plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service by ensuring a fast, friendly, and accurate checkout experience. This position directly impacts customer satisfaction, store profitability, and aligns with the company's purpose of promoting sports and outdoor activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and operate cash register for all transaction types including returns, credit applications, hunting and fishing licenses, and sales.
• Accurately balance transactions run through an assigned register.
• Zone merchandise and maintain merchandising guidelines; stock impulse racks and set and maintain impulse/front end POGs.
• Perform price/SKU look ups.
• Support incoming and outgoing merchandise transfers.
• Perform housekeeping duties including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, picking up trash, emptying trash, and spot mopping.
• Maintain and exhibit knowledge of cashier processes and procedures.
• Read, understand, and follow company policies, procedures, and safety rules.
• Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• 1 year or previous related work experience preferred.
• Excellent customer service orientation.
• Effective problem-solving and communication skills with customers and team members.
• Ability to operate and coach others on the use of POS equipment, symbol, and telephone.
• Working knowledge of inventory software and order processing systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience operating POS equipment, symbol, and telephone.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, plan-o-grams, and procedure manuals.
