About the position

The position involves proficiently performing basic to advanced nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The incumbent must be proficient with all procedures performed at the assigned facility, including therapy, QMP, PET/CT, and nuclear pharmacist backup. Responsibilities include reviewing patient medical records, preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, maintaining accurate records, and serving as a technical resource for students and staff. The role also requires collaboration with other departments and performing various patient positioning and transporting duties.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently performs basic to advanced nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Reviews patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders.
  • Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medication by proper route per clinician prescription.
  • Competently performs venipuncture and placement of peripheral IV catheters for medication administration.
  • Follows correct procedures for handling radioactive materials and implements ALARA measures.
  • Maintains accurate records of pharmaceutical doses.
  • Relays pertinent patient history information to appropriate staff and departments.
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images.
  • Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures.
  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff.
  • Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties.

Requirements

  • Nuclear Medicine Tech (N) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification (CNMT) issued by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a Nuclear Medicine Technologist role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiation safety.
  • Advanced knowledge of Radioactive Materials Program Requirements (State of WI) DHS 157.
  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture.
  • Proficient ECG interpretation, heart rhythm recognition and pharmacological knowledge.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
