About the position

The Professional Staff Nurse at UPMC Harrisburg is a registered nurse responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). This role involves managing patient care activities, collaborating with healthcare teams, and ensuring patient satisfaction through evidence-based practices. The nurse will engage in continuous professional development and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and discusses them with colleagues and management.
  • Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care.
  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
  • Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients, considering their individual needs.
  • Practices solid communication skills to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice.
  • Serves as a highly engaged partner on the care team and responds to team member needs for assistance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, and new staff.

Requirements

  • One year of RN experience required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state or a state covered by a licensure compact agreement.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively within a complex environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Nice-to-haves

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.
  • Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within six months of hire.
