About the position

The position involves exercising independent discretion in handling catastrophe property claims and assisting with day-to-day property claims when not deployed. It is a work-from-home role that requires travel throughout the ERIE Operating Footprint, which includes multiple states. The role offers opportunities for growth within a recognized company and includes a company car with a paid gas card.

Responsibilities

  • Establish immediate contact with policyholders regarding their loss and drive to the site of damage within assigned territory.
  • Set and manage adequate reserves within designated authority.
  • Properly identify and assess damage, determining liability and total value of claims.
  • Prepare estimates relating to identified damages and obtain agreed scope of work and cost of repair with contractors and/or policyholders.
  • Document claim files with all activities and submit final reports for closure.
  • Determine or decline payment and issue checks as required.
  • Negotiate claims with plaintiff attorneys when necessary.
  • Assign and supervise the handling of property losses by independent adjusters when necessary.
  • Advise claims adjusters regarding handling of claims.
  • Attend industry-related training programs to stay current on legal developments and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist assigned field office(s) as necessary when not on Catastrophe Duty, bringing assigned property claims to conclusion.
  • Provide monthly operational maintenance of the Sprinter Van attached to the office where the CAT adjuster is domiciled.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five years of claims handling experience, including two years of property claims handling experience, required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of structural damage repair and valuation techniques or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Incumbent must live in the territory assigned unless a change is approved by the company.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (preferably Symbility) or equivalent preferred.
