About the position

The Category Manager for Gypsum at Saint-Gobain is responsible for managing the purchasing of gypsum raw materials across North America, with an annual budget of $250 million. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and collaboration with various business units to ensure compliance with corporate policies and to implement effective sourcing strategies that align with business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage gypsum categories of raw material purchases for IPG CertainTeed in the USA and Canada.
  • Develop and implement long-term sourcing strategies for gypsum in line with business objectives.
  • Conduct market research and drive purchasing strategies for gypsum, considering environmental factors and logistics.
  • Monitor trends and opportunities in the gypsum supply landscape and assess their impact on the business.
  • Lead RFPs and supplier negotiations to secure competitive pricing for raw materials.
  • Establish formal supply agreements with key suppliers in collaboration with the legal team.
  • Collaborate with multiple CertainTeed business units to create cross-BU strategies for raw materials.
  • Identify and implement Value Added/Value Engineering projects to enhance customer value and reduce costs.
  • Work with R&D on cost-saving opportunities and new product development initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and internal controls for raw materials sourcing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business-related field or relevant experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in supply chain or purchasing, preferably in the construction or plastics industry.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
  • Confidentiality and security in conducting activities.
  • Experience with high spend/complexity RFPs and contract management.
  • Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Understanding of the P2P process and ability to communicate effectively with senior management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the mining industry, particularly gypsum and recycled gypsum.
  • Experience in implementing digital tools and programs for purchasing.
