About the position

The Category Manager/Sr Category Manager role at American Airlines is a key position within the Procurement team of the Finance division. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic programs that meet the needs of internal stakeholders while managing contracts and suppliers effectively. The position requires strong negotiation skills and the ability to create long-term partnerships with suppliers, ensuring that the company achieves its procurement goals while maintaining high standards of service and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Represents the company in business transactions with both internal and external organizations
• Creates and manages strategies, negotiations, RFPs, and contracts
• Creates, negotiates, implements and manages long term contracts while effectively developing and promoting strategic partnerships with suppliers
• Works closely with internal American Airlines customers and stakeholders to understand their business needs, objectives, product/service requirements and the broader operational processes
• Effectively communicates with appropriate management levels both internally and externally
• Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change
• Assists with the Training program for the Procurement & Supply Chain team, as necessary
• Assists with the Supplier Diversity program, as necessary

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field
• 3+ years related work experience
• Demonstrable skills for category management, commercial negotiations, securing hard savings and cost avoidance, and executing complex deals in a fast changing environment

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Business Management, Finance, Accounting, or other related field
• Knowledge of Source to Pay systems
• Strong project management skills
