About the position

The Catering Assistant position is a part-time role within the Culinary Arts department at LBCC, responsible for performing basic catering service duties. This includes food preparation, serving, and the setup and takedown of catering events. The role requires collaboration with other Catering Division employees and adherence to safety and sanitation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for catering events by setting up buffets before the start time and cleaning up after events.
  • Prepares food and beverages for event orders according to customer specifications efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintains positive and respectful communication with kitchen crew and clients.
  • Keeps work and service areas safe, sanitary, and orderly, complying with health codes.
  • Cleans preparation and service equipment.
  • Restocks work stations and notifies Catering Lead of supply needs.
  • Washes dishes and assists with cleaning in other areas as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a current Food Handler's card or obtain it within 30 days of employment.
  • Requires high school level reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
  • Knowledge of kitchen utensils and equipment usage.
  • Understanding of safety and sanitation practices related to food service.
  • Strong customer relations skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • A minimum of one year of experience in food service is preferred.
  • Experience with kitchen equipment such as knives, meat slicers, dishwashers, deep fryers, and ovens is preferred.
