About the position

The Catering Director at Marriott Minneapolis NW is responsible for overseeing the catering and food and beverage sales goals of the hotel. This role involves managing the catering team, servicing clients, and ensuring the achievement of revenue and satisfaction scores. The position requires a strategic approach to sales and a strong focus on team management and client relations.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage assigned meeting planner satisfaction scores and revenue goals.
  • Manage Human Resources in the division to attract, retain, and motivate employees; hire, train, develop, empower, coach, and counsel staff.
  • Understand and negotiate catering contracts and terms.
  • Conduct solicitation calls, tours, and entertain clients based on their needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate market trends.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly and service-oriented manner.
  • Adhere to company standards and catering sales metrics.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of hotel operations and policies.
  • Deliver banquet event orders accurately and on time.
  • Communicate changes timely to impacted departments.
  • Maintain visibility in the local community and industry organizations.
  • Assist in implementing special promotions related to direct sales segments.
  • Attend required meetings and functions.
  • Maintain professional relationships and promote open communication with marketing partners and internal departments.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of progressive hotel catering sales experience preferred; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated creativity and knowledge of food and beverage/events.
  • Valid driver's license in the applicable state.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough experience with professional selling skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic vision for sales deployment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact and manage people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Advanced knowledge of sales/marketing/hospitality principles.
