About the position

The Catering Event Server at the University of Texas at Austin is responsible for providing high-quality service during catering events across campus. This role involves setting up, serving, and breaking down catering functions while ensuring a clean and organized environment. The position requires a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Serve food and beverages to attendees during catering events.
• Set up and replenish food stations as needed for catering functions.
• Assist guests with menu inquiries in an informative manner.
• Support the banquet captain throughout the event as needed.
• Report any issues to the Banquet Captain or Catering Manager.
• Read and understand banquet event orders (BEOS) for event setup and breakdown responsibilities.
• Set up and break down service equipment, wares, tables, linens, décor, and table settings.
• Provide prompt and courteous service to ensure a five-star guest experience.
• Greet and interact with event attendees professionally and positively.
• Maintain cleanliness and condition of work areas and equipment according to safety and sanitation policies.
• Transport food and equipment across campus using a University vehicle as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience as a waiter in a dining establishment.
• Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment.
• Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining.

Nice-to-haves

• Three or more years of server experience.
• Three or more years of experience in customer service.
• Experience in event services.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook.
• Experience working in a university setting.
