About the position

The Catering Event Supervisor at the University of Dayton is responsible for overseeing catering staff and ensuring the successful execution of events according to guest specifications. This role involves managing set up, delivery, service, and inventory while adhering to safety and sanitation procedures. The supervisor also oversees retail operations for bar and food service venues within the catering department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee catering staff at various locations during events.
  • Ensure execution of events according to guest specifications listed on service orders.
  • Manage set up, delivery, service, and inventory for catering events.
  • Supervise retail operations for bar and other food service venues under the Catering department.
  • Ensure all safety and sanitation procedures are followed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a food prep and/or food service position.
  • Working knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Experience supervising and training personnel in proper food service techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others without direct supervision.
  • Proven ability to be a self-starter and demonstrate creativity.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels in a professional, friendly, and helpful manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to exert fast-paced mobility and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform occasional heavy physical labor.
  • Valid driver's license with a low-risk driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Degree in Culinary Arts, Business, or Hospitality Management.
  • Previous successful catering supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi-event/facility environment.
  • Current Managerial ServSafe certification.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor.
