About the position

The Catering and Events Manager provides administrative support to the Director of Culinary Services and assists the Culinary Services management team with routine daily assignments and projects. This role acts as the Process Manager for catering events and private parties, overseeing planning, setup, and execution. The manager ensures that Southminster meets and improves its standards of excellence while upholding its Mission Statement, including managing special offsite events. Responsibilities also include ensuring the efficacy of Contracted Service Agreements, developing and maintaining the catering menu, and managing communication through phone and email. The manager coordinates and executes special events and parties, manages the accounting functions for catering and private events, organizes catering storage areas, and acts as a backup to dining management as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and professional assistance to the Director and Assistant Director of Culinary and Culinary department.
  • Ensure efficacy of Contracted Service Agreements.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the catering menu.
  • Answer phone and emails, ensuring all messages are handled appropriately.
  • Participate in Community Committee meetings and Strategic Plans as requested by the Director of Culinary.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute special events and parties, responsible for BEOs and their distribution.
  • Manage the accounting administrative function for catering and private events, including billing and POS reports.
  • Organize and maintain catering storage areas and catering carts.
  • Act as a backup to dining management as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Culinary.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Extensive administration experience in dining and catering.
  • Proficiency in leadership and management.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory (state and federal) guidelines.
  • Serve safe certified.
  • Heimlich Maneuver certified.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and sound judgement.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people under varying conditions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong command of MS Office and ability to learn POS configuration.
  • Flexibility to perform several different functions in the same day.
