About the position

The Catering Sales & Event Manager at Marsh House is responsible for overseeing all aspects of catering sales and event management to ensure the successful execution of catering events. This role requires a dynamic and enthusiastic leader who thrives under pressure and is capable of multitasking while troubleshooting issues as they arise. The individual will work closely with the Food & Beverage Director and Executive Chef to create and sell menus that meet client needs while maximizing revenue opportunities. The position demands a strong focus on guest relations, ensuring that all interactions with clients are positive and memorable, thereby fostering long-term relationships and repeat business. In this role, the Catering Sales & Event Manager will implement effective marketing strategies to generate catering revenues and actively participate in industry-related organizations and community activities to enhance visibility and create booking opportunities. The manager will be responsible for negotiating, preparing, and writing catering contracts, as well as prospecting and soliciting new business. This includes responding to inquiries from potential guests and directing staff to meet client needs effectively. The individual will also ensure that all accounting processes are completed for groups requesting direct billing and will oversee the collection of deposits. Regular communication with staff and other departments is essential to ensure that events proceed according to the established plans. The manager will periodically review and adjust catering menus to maintain consistency with the product vision and quality standards. This position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the demands of catering events.

Responsibilities

  • Implement effective marketing plans for generating catering revenues.
  • Work closely with Food & Beverage Director and Executive Chef to sell menus that meet client needs and maximize revenues.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and write catering contracts.
  • Prospect, solicit, and close new business while maintaining relationships with repeat clients.
  • Interact with clients to determine needs and direct staff accordingly.
  • Respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries from potential guests.
  • Participate in industry-related organizations and community activities to create booking opportunities.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure functions go according to plan as outlined in the event order.
  • Ensure all accounting is completed for groups requesting direct billing and collect deposits.
  • Provide an overview of weekly events to staff and answer questions during meetings.
  • Review and adjust catering menus periodically to ensure product and vision consistency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent education and training in luxury hotel catering, sales, and convention services.
  • Two years of experience in catering sales or conference management.
  • Proven selling, negotiating, prospecting, and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed customer service skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, proper preparation, and presentation standards.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of the Hyatt Envision system is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to maintain financials for booked and forecasted business.
  • Strong coordinating skills to determine time, place, and sequence of operations.
